Dementia and Alzheimer’s Awareness Training for Nursing Home Staff by the Vocational School of Health Services

As part of World Alzheimer’s Day, a “Dementia and Alzheimer’s Awareness Training” program was organized for nursing home staff in cooperation with Aksaray University Vocational School of Health Services and A. Kadir Üçyıldız Nursing Home.

The training was delivered by Lect. Dr. Funda TUNCER ŞAHİN, a faculty member of the Elderly Care Program at the Vocational School of Health Services. The program covered the signs and symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, risk factors, disease progression, the importance of early recognition, communication with patients, and key considerations in care processes.

Following the training, which aimed to improve the professional knowledge and awareness of nursing home staff, participants completed an evaluation survey. Of the 23 employees who participated in the survey, 87% found the training very useful, while 91.3% stated that the information they had gained could be applied in care practices. Participants also requested further training on topics such as communication with older adults, active ageing, privacy, and care services.

Conducted within the scope of the University’s community engagement activities, the training contributed to sharing academic knowledge with the community, enhancing the quality of elderly care services, and strengthening institutional cooperation between the University and the nursing home.
