Unit Quality Commission Meeting Held at the Vocational School of Health Services

The Unit Quality Commission of Aksaray University Vocational School of Health Services convened on 14 September 2026 to evaluate education and training processes, quality assurance activities, student satisfaction, peer-review outcomes, and research and development activities. The meeting agenda included the 2025–2026 Spring Semester course and student satisfaction survey results, Bologna Information Package updates, expansion of the Advisory Board, the peer-review report, research and development activities, student requests, the Double Major Program, and the continuity of alumni–student activities.

During the meeting, particular emphasis was placed on the effective use of student feedback in improving educational processes. It was decided to increase student participation in satisfaction surveys by informing academic advisors and encouraging students to complete the surveys. The Commission also decided to improve cleanliness and hygiene conditions, which were identified as one of the areas open to improvement in student satisfaction results, and to monitor the outcomes again in the following survey period. In addition, while overall satisfaction with course evaluation results was found to be high, it was agreed that efforts to strengthen lecturer–student communication should continue and that necessary corrective measures should be taken for courses falling below the critical threshold.

Within the scope of quality assurance in education and training, the Bologna Information Packages, which had been updated in line with the recommendations made during the quality meeting attended by senior management, will be reviewed once again by the unit Bologna coordinators, and any remaining deficiencies will be corrected. It was also decided to strengthen external stakeholder participation in the Advisory Board by inviting a representative from the Public Health Laboratory of the Provincial Directorate of Health.

As part of the peer-review report, the Commission discussed the standardization of assessment and evaluation rubrics used in practical courses across programs. In this context, it was decided to prepare the necessary rubrics for the Opticianry and Medical Documentation and Secretarial programs. The Commission also planned activities aimed at increasing the diversity of external funding sources and the number of projects addressing local and regional needs, while strengthening the research competencies of academic staff through information sessions, workshops, seminars, and similar activities.

In addition, based on feedback obtained through peer-review processes, the inclusion of up-to-date topics related to contact lenses in the Opticianry curriculum was discussed. It was also planned that academic staff with experience in TÜBİTAK, international projects, and Scientific Research Projects (BAP) would share their knowledge and experience with all academic staff through presentations and training sessions.

To strengthen student and alumni participation, the Commission decided to organize the “Ask the Director” event at the beginning of the academic year and to continue alumni–student meetings. Furthermore, first-year students from each program were appointed as student representatives to the Unit Quality Commission in order to enhance student participation in quality processes.

Regarding the Double Major Program, it was decided to initiate the necessary preparations for pairing the Medical Laboratory Techniques and Elderly Care Programs, as well as the Medical Laboratory Techniques and Medical Documentation and Secretarial Programs, and to submit the proposals to the University Senate upon completion of the required work.

The Vocational School of Health Services will continue to monitor and improve its education, research, governance, and quality assurance processes in line with student and stakeholder feedback and the principle of continuous improvement.
